Matt first cut his teeth writing and performing comedy aged fifteen when he and a friend wrote a half-hour long comic play during a history lesson, and he has never looked back. Matt continued writing and performing comedy at University, culminating in a comedy tour to the USA, and then the formation of The Unexpected Items. Outside of the Items Matt is a keen actor (inside he’s less keen), and favourite credits include Hercule Poirot in ‘Death on the Nile’ (Worcester Gardens, 2007), Sir Anthony Absolute in ‘The Rivals’ (Oxford Playhouse, 2008) and Tybalt & Friar Laurence in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ (Thelma Holt / Cameron Mackintosh Japan Tour, 2008). He also appeared in the film 'Life Goes On' (2009) alongside Om Puri and Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan and gave a seminal performance as Boy 3 in 'Eastenders E20'. Recently described as “quietly confident, statesmanlike” by the Times, Matt is keen to play down comparisons between him and Winston Churchill, a move that will no doubt earn him further plaudits for modesty.
Matt also wrote and performed a sketch called 'Gap Yah' that a lot of people watched on YouTube, and subsequently appeared as this character on BBC London News, 'Big Brother's Big Mouth' and 'Gap Yah 2: The Afterparty'. He's appeared in 'Mythbunking' at last year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe. matt@theunexpecteditems.com |
